Why He Started Acting: Bill Murray started acting because his older brother (the actor Brian Doyle-Murray) introduced him into an improvisational comedy troupe called "Second City" in Chicago (1973). He then moved to New York (1974) and was featured regularly on a radio show called National Lampoon's Hour. He then was spotted by a sportscaster that recruited him for the cast of "Saturday Night Live."
He starred in many episodes of Saturday Night Live With Howard Cosell on ABC and when that show ended in 76, he starred in the other, more popular, Saturday Night Live on NBC that is still airing to this day.
He starred in his first box office hit film "Meatballs" in 1979.
February 1, 1982, Bill Murray was the first guest on "Late Night With David Letterman"
He starred in the dramatic film "The Razors Edge" (1984) which was a lifelong dream of his, but the film failed drastically which led to a temporary break in acting for a few years.
In 1994, he was a supporting actor in the film "Space Jam" along with famous basketball players Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.
Also in 2014, he starred in a film named "The Monuments Men" with actors George Clooney, Matt Damon, and John Goodman
In 2014, he starred in a film named "The Grand Budapest Hotel" with actor Jude Law.
His last film of 2014 was a film named "St. Vincent" where he starred along with actresses Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts.
Bill is still starring in movies to this day and plans to keep it that way until he gets tired of it and wants to retire.
